Diet & Nutrition

diet and nutritionDeveloping healthy eating habits isn’t just good for the body, it’s also good for the mind as mental and physical health are inextricably linked. Eating junk food is bad for your digestion and has little to no nutritional value. Instead it’s saturated with sugar, fat and artificial chemicals allowing toxins to build up inside your body.

Healthy foods, however, provide all the essential vitamins and minerals your body needs. They are good for growth and digestion, giving you plenty of vitality and energy. For those self-conscious about their weight, eating healthy is an essential part of slimming down, which is good not just for your physical health but also your self esteem.

In today’s hectic, with all its instant, pre-packaged convenience it’s easy to fall off the wagon, especially for those struggling with the demands of career, family or both, find themselves swinging by the drive-thru or reaching to call the pizza guy.

Healthy food need not be a chore, however, it can be just as quick and easy to prepare, and tasty too, and by changing your diet for the better you can help bring balance back to your body and your life. Our aim is to help you find out how, with articles and advice on diet and nutrition, organic food and organic living as well as lots of tasty and healthy recipies

Be sure, also, to check out some of the great diet and nutrition books in our self help books section.

A Different View on Weight Loss

selfhelp : October 10, 2011 11:11 am : Diet-Nutrition, Health, Life Skills

By – Garry Robbins

114kg down to 82kg, that has been my journey.

Why I say it is a different view on weight loss is that thru the whole process which is split into 2 parts, I never really focused on weight or weight loss.  My whole FOCUS was on HEALTH, physical and mental, which was the key to my long term weight loss.

Stage 1

Between the age 32 to 34, I had the desire to be healthy again. As a youngster I was fit, healthy, vibrant and into a mountain of sports, and I wanted that back. The process started one day in August 2003, when I woke up and thought, holy shit I look and feel terrible.  It had taken less then years of over eating constantly, eating rubbish constantly and drinking to excess to make me feel so bloody terrible, and when I say terrible I really mean terrible.  Here I was at 32, a time when I should have been in the prime of my life, looking down the barrel of a shortened life span. I was already struggling with a painfull ulcer, ridiculously high cholesterol and serious shortness of breath after the slightest bit of effort. It was time to do something different. more »
